Couple late night projects
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:44:05 AM »
Started out by making a new sheath for my girlfriends Izula. I took the stock plastic sheath and cut it way down to the blade shape visible on it and stitched some 6-7 oz. leather I've had around. This leather is very tough yet not quite thick enough for being a sheath on its own. I got these copper rivets from an old tack turned shoe shop in Olivia, Mn. The lady said they are from the 20's. I made the leather first then wet it and rammed the insert home, very tight fit.

Next I started wrapping the handle of a 3" mora I just got from Ragnar. It has a very small handle, so I wrapped it once in gaff tape then whipped it (sort of, used tape to hold it in place). Then I dipped it first in some used rit dye and then polyurethane. While that was drying I built the leather butt cap. I wanted it fill out my palm and hold the "whipping" at one end. I haven't glued it yet because I'm thinking of working a lanyard into it somehow and it is super tightly dry fit, I made the cap a little small and it kind of threaded onto the poly'd cordage. The sheath was a kydex and leather affair I made for my HEST. I cut it down and reformed the kydex insert. pretty good retention, but temporary, it will live in my day bag for now. First time making a sort of 3d object in leather, was really fun. I awled all the holes so it went pretty smooth, but I screwed up the amount between the oval and walls.

lookin pretty Orcish.
