Which SAK?
« on: November 14, 2012, 11:30:52 AM »
B and Bers, I gave my old SAK Climber model to my buddies 8 year old a couple of days and already miss it! Before I buy a new one to replace it I was wondering what you favourite models are for everyday carry.

Thanks for reading

I have 4 SAKS, but only one (well, two, as I have two of them) gets everyday use... Fieldmaster. It has all the tools I need and it's not too bulky.

I'm really all about the Farmer w/mods(SAKenstein), but I'm starting to love my Hiker, again.

I never knew there was a little hole beside the Phillips, for a pin to fit into!  Now, it's just edging out my SAKenstein.

Favorite SAK? that would be "MY" Victorinox Tinker. It has been with me for past 25 years everyday and still works as well as when I got it.

I carried a Tinker that I found on a trail while out on walkabout with a friend.  I carried it for years until I lost it, too.  I couldn't find a Tinker when I went to replace it because they happened to be sold out of that model.  They did have a Hiker, which is just a Tinker with the addition of a saw blade, so I opted for it.  I'm glad I did, as I've used that saw blade a lot more over the years than I thought I would.

I carry an Officier suisse

Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

I really like my huntsman. I have an explorer that was my FILs he is deceased so it will stay in a drawer til my son or daughter is of age. No kids yet and that explorer is tempting but I really love my huntsman. It beat my farmer due to scissors.  That being said I am in the market for a fieldmaster

This had been misplaced for awhile but now its back in action, the same knife I used to carve my walking stick probably had it around 20yrs now. Appears to be the same model as beast's except for one small difference, instead of the Phillips driver I have a corkscrew.

... ooh and my scissor spring won't stay in the little groove anymore :(

Aren't they lifetime guaranteed ? I have one like that without the scissors and hook thing. Mine is the only one I have ever seen with NO toothpick OR tweezers...

I couldn't be without it for a minute. I built a deck and my sawzall blade was whooped and cut the 2x8" crooked. I whipped out the sak and cut the 8" across right on the line using only about 1" strokes. My cousin couldn't believe his eyes and now wants a real SAK for himself. Said that did better than the sawzal!! LOL. It did tho.

I saw this SAK at Target for $17. Cheapest I've ever seen one. hiker / camper? same knife I have tho. large & small blades. screw driver/ bottle opener. Can opener/screw driver. saw. awl and corkscrew. It has the tweezers and toothpick even!!!

I carry a Swiss Army Electrician's knife. They aren't very common, they don't have a lot of tools, but I use every tool on the knife.

I carry a Leatherman Squirt PS4 for my other tool.

My favourite everyday carry SAK is the Waiter. Blade, corkscrew and multi-tool bottle/can opener/screwdriver thingy.
Problem is I don't have one right now.
These days I'm carrying an Wenger SI. A bit heavy but very sturdy.
I've also carried the Hiker and the Camper. Nice compact/dense SAKs, they are.

I have a Farmer in my pocket nearly everyday. When I am in more dressy clohes or want a lower profile I go with the Bushcraft.
