Mod Done to Beast's Gas Mask Bag.
« on: December 10, 2012, 12:20:38 PM »
As many of you know, Wilderbeast sells a great Gas Mask Bag.  PW, has made an over the shoulder carry mod: PW's Mod.  I've use this mod and it is great.  But I decided to try a new mod on the gas mask bag.

I cut off all the straps on the pack.

I then punch 4 wholes in the rear side of the bag in the corners.  I then placed a Eyelet Rivet in the holes that I just punched.

I then inserted para-cord through the top hole and down through the bottom hole.  I did this on each side.  And attached a cord lock to the ends.

I then was able to use this improvised "MOLLE" through the female "MOLLE" straps on my pack.

No, I did remove the cord locks and the knot on the end of the para-cord.  I thread it through and then put the cordlock back on and tied a knot in the end of the cord again.  The knot at the end makes sure that if your cordlock loosens it won't loosen past the knot and fall off.
I will post a picture shortly.

Here is a close up of the pack's para-cord connecting through the MOLLE.

Great job on the mod. I am looking forward to modding my gas mask someday.

Neat idea, and I like the eyelets.

I think I might actually steal that idea and install eyelets in the side panels to move the attachment point up from the bottom of the bag. The mod you linked works, but it makes the bag bunch up a bit since the attachment is at the bottom.

That's a cool idea, Matt.  You can still add a couple D-rings and keep a shoulder strap inside for use as a murse when you gather edibles or tinder.  We used to replace the ALICE clips on our field gear with 550 cord.  Quieter and less floppy.  We didn't have the cool cord locks though.  We just had knots, 'cause that's all we had back in those days. LOL.

Thanks for sharing the idea.
Is there such a thing as too many knives?

That may work better.  Let me know how it works for you.
