I agree with the others. That haft is sweet. Having never seen one like that myself I too would be curious about how it feels.

It feels...not great to me. I was getting hot spots in my palms while I was working it. Probably like anything else. You'd get used to it. It's a cool looking haft.

better view of my Kentish pattern with a short helve that i carved from a solid piece of Ash, i use this for carving, works a treat.

and not really an axe, but a billhook, i use these all the time when im working in the coppice woodland, more on billhooks here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billhook

This one was last used in the damp and stored in the shed outside, hence the surface rust

I got it from King's Forge: http://kingsforgeandmuzzleloading.com/page9 I replaced the original handle because it was super thin and flat. It was also just pressure fit. I replaced it with a piece of a warped axe handle that is wedged at the top. The overall length is 10-1/2" and it weighs .81 lbs. I think it will make a nifty bag axe.

Damn nice choppers guys

Here's a couple of mine and a couple I am slowly redoing for a friend. Hoping to get a raw branch of ash from another friend to carve up a handle for the big old plumb that belonged to a friends father. I have no idea how old it is but my friend is mid 50s and he said his stepfather had it long before he was around so guessing has to be near 60 plus years old. The hammer hatchet was also his stepfathers and I am going to restore it to

The hawk is mine and also a pic of the one gifted to me by upthecreek

Big old plumb handle bout 36 inches long guessing she's gotta be a 5 pounder she's heavy but damn fun lol

This is the little guy I got from upthecreek. Slowly working on redoing it up gonna rehandle and getting her prettied up

And now my hawk so far the usual mods stripped the paint working on getting a better edge on it and doing some light carving on the handle among other decorative mods I have in mind

My initials done up in ancient Celtic

That's my collection so far minus my friends axes of which I am hoping to acquire from him

Digging that Husqvarna/Hults Traditional Forest Axe (2011/12 model). I wonder if Husqvarna is going to come out with a mid-size between that and their hatchet, a la GB SFA... Either way, sweet axes at a great price.

I doubt it. Husqvarna does not seem to have it's heart in the axe business. They are a huge company. If you want something in that price range, and are willing to do some work, you may want to check this out: http://woodtrekker.blogspot.com/2010/11/cheap-alternative-for-gransfors-bruks.html It has worked very well for me.
