2 cool finds yesterday
« on: April 21, 2013, 07:07:56 PM »
I got lucky and ran across these two beauties yesterday. Great vintage boys axes.

One is a True Temper Flint edge and the other a Sentry Hardware circa 1953

Both needed to be set a little better and I was able to do that pretty quick. The TT has been used a plenty but the Sentry is is in great shape with the original wood

I'm gonna pretty them up just a little but with a little whittling and a few wacks with a straight peen hammer
I had two usable tools in about 2 beers! A good find.

I think the TT may be added to the collection. The sentry in in great shape. An unusal find in it's condition for sure. It has a nice thin handle on it. That one will probably find a new home though.

looking good. my favorite is to find them with the original handle still usable. even if the handle takes some refurb, it's worth it.

I like them both, that sentry looks very interesting.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

Awesome Creek.  Two great finds for sure.  Never heard of Sentra before.  Very cool.

I'd never heard of the Sentry before, either, but it's a handsome tool!    Looks like one I'd like to pack on a trip. :canoe:

I look and look and usually find nothing. This is a lesson in why it pays to keep looking. The True Temper is in fair condition and I'll use it some to insure the integrity of the handle and replace it if need be. I have more than several TT's and am actually trying to collect one good one of each version. (hatchet, boys, single of different styles, doubles of different styles, and sundry tools, etc)  The Sentry is in original condition and I doubt I'll use it any. A rare find for sure, It would be interesting to research the maker but I doubt I'll do it. No doubt a fine addition to a collections but one only "needs" so many axes! The best hit I've made in a while for sure.

Nice finds. I have a TT flint edge like that. It has a sweet profile.
