I Finally Did It
« on: May 23, 2013, 01:59:49 PM »
Well after years of pining and a couple of huge threads on another outdoorsy forum belly aching about wanting it....i finally broke down last night and did it...

Seems like a lot of money for a canteen system but you get quite a bit for it.  Looks like lil man just got himself a usgi canteen system.

Anyone else have one of these??

I think Red has one and likes it. It's a neat little setup but too rich for my blood. What'd you think of it? Worth the steep price?

Just ordered it last night, Nick.  Ill give a comparo review when it gets in.  I hope the price is justified...i actually like the new canteenshop ss canteen system but for only $10 more got a lot of accesories.  So we will see.  I know that they are uber popular and im sure if i hate it i can turn it and recover some funds.

I like how this system has a canteen, a boiling cup and a drinking cup...as anyone who has heated their joe or coco too long on the fire and taken a drink from the usgi canteen cup can attest...burnt lips suck!  :). This should help remedy that.

It looks pretty slick, I look forward to your review.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

I have a USGI canteen and cup via Wilderbeast but it looks like you have a lot of extras.  I am curious to see what you got there.

That looks pretty cool.  I bet you will love it.    The price might be a little high, but you pay it once ( unless you want more  lol)  and can use the rest of your life.

Werewolf One has one and really likes it, I got one but have only used it once or twice-but hope to have it out more this season.  I made an alcohol stove for mine because the green snot is fairly pricy (to me).  You nailed it on the burnt lip thing though, that SUCKS!

Here's the stove I made-nothing special, just an alternative

I've used a US GI Canteen and cup since I was a kid, but when Bear Grylls featured the NATO version on Man Verses Wild I suddenly wanted one!  I could never justify the price though (especially now that I'm married...).  Anubis I hope it's everything you dreamed it would be because I must now live vicariously through your purchase...   ;)

I have 2 USGI sets (canteen, cup, stove) and 2 bottle sets (32oz
Guyot Backpacker w/GSI cup & 40oz Klean Kanteen w/Olicamp cup).

My next set will be The Canteen Shop Pathfinder Stainless Steel
Canteen Combo which to me is the best of both worlds.

Best of luck with your new set and let us know how it works out for you.
:)

Love it. Especially since I finally found a perfect nesting partner to the Guyot Backpacker.
Both are tapered and fit each other perfectly. For $15., you can't do better and it's a pretty
sturdy set. I modified the lid however because I heard that they melt. I formed my own lid loop.
Also, I made a cup lid for the GSI cup out of a jar lid with a Chicago screw and replaced the OEM
KK lid with their new D-Ring lid.
