(MLL KNIVES) - N690 COMPANION - Black Ebony handle.(SOLD)

COMPANION N690 stainless steel.

Dimensions: OAL 9.055" (230mm) with a blade of 4.3/4" (120mm) long by 1.1/2" (38mm) wide and a spine thickness of 0,177" (4,5mm).

Blade Finish: Hand brushed finish.

Steel: BOHLER N690 stainless steel - a modern stainless steel designed for use in high performance blades. Great value in a corrosion resistant, with excellent edge holding capabilities. Additions of chromium and vanadium enhance edge holding capability, while cobalt and carbon help to retain high hardness.

For the user the N690 is very similar to O1 carbon steel, but with a great advantage, no problems with rust.

Handle Materials: Black Ebony, White liner, Ergonomic handle design, Full tang construction, Stainless steel pins.

Sheath: Handmade leather case, vertical carry.

That is a beauty.  I have a friend  and fellow knife maker in Austria that uses N690 steel also.

Is that your thoughts too or what do you compare it too?  It is a air harding steel also?

I never worked the 440C but from what I've read the N690 is similar to VG10, only the carbon is similar to 440c

N690 = C 1,08 Si 0,40 Mn 0,40 Cr 17,30 Mo 1,10 V 0,10 Co 1,50

For the user is very similar to O1, with the advantage of non-rusting, for the maker is a hard work steel.

Is a oil quenching steel.
