New Bolos from the Philippines-Choppers!
« on: December 30, 2013, 02:06:55 PM »
I got back from our last overnighter to see these waiting for me from my friends at Filipino Bolos.
About 17.5 inches-long
12.5 inch-long leaf spring blades
Full Tang
Distal Taper

Two of the bolos were the subject of much request over the last two years, but it took a while to get the right bladesmith to produce them from Pangasinan, Philippines. I remember the last two times I was in the Philippines I used bolos from Filipino Bolos on two jungle classes I took and down south to Mindanao.

These are called the Jungle Survival Bolos (Left-Right/A-B)

Model A (bottom)

Model B has more of a dramatic drop to the blade

This is their newer version of the Utility Bolo. It seems to have a more squared top with a little more weight.

PVC handles. They look like the more authentic Carabao Horn (water buffalo), but with the lightness and durability of synthetic scales as Carabao Horn tends to crack once it ships overseas.

Three different tip styles

Jungle Survival A (top) Utility Bolo (center) Jungle survival Bolo B (bottom)

The best part of the package?

Heh. Nice Bolos.

I was thinking of making adobo next overnighter. A lot of Filipino food seems like it'd be perfect for camp cooking.
