Monthly Project - January 2014
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:01:58 AM »
Camp lashing

For this month's project I'm illustrating lashing a small camp table. All that was used was shear lashings.

i made two bipods for the legs, using four forked sticks

then i made the table top, using four sticks shear lashed at each end, with the cross pieces sandwiched in between

i leaned one bipod up against a tree, and drove the legs of the second one into the ground, putting everything at the same height.

then i put the table on top of the bipods

and that's it! here it is with my small camp kitchen on it. i enjoyed some pine needle tea, which i'd never had before.

and for those of you that prefer video....

ok folks, get out there and have fun

I cut out and glued up 3 axe masks this afternoon - one each for plumb scout hatchet, Hudson Bay, and Norlund Boy's Axe.

I forgot to ask, how long did you steep your pine needles for?

Probably not long enough. It was weak, but still good.

my experience with pine needle tea is that it needs to steep at least 10 min, 20 is better.

Slick! One or two projects like this every day and you'd have a fully furnished camp in a week!

Sorry I'm getting this in so late, nevertheless here's my lashing it aint purdy but here is my attempt at lashing my pilot's survival knife to a haft.

Believe me this was a pain in the neck which is why it's looks a bit sloppy, not my best work for sure, it does work however!
