Figure 4 Spring Snare... NOT a deadfall!
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:44:11 PM »
I'm reposting this from the 550 thread, because there may be some folks that may not be interested in the 550 thread, but otherwise interested in this trap.

Mods, I set it here, because I reckon it has to do with bushlore and survival as much as it does trapping in the lower section. If it doesn't fit here, my apologies.

I designed this trap to eliminate the Achilles heel of spring snares... the anchor. But I used trap components already familiar to you, if you use the figure 4 deadfall? The baitstick and angle stick.

On one of my trapping classes, it took two of us (combined weight of about 350 pounds) to bend over a sapling enough while a third person set the trigger. It truly was an epic launch when we tripped the trigger. It would have taken a kid off the ground easy.

I think this topic bleed over and was talked about on the 550 cord topic. But yes this is something I plan on setting on my next camp for a fishing trigger. Thanks for posting in up.

Very cool and a new one for me.  You know I will be making one of those on my next outing.

Thanks Alan, I really like that set. And thanks for sharing with use here at B&B.

Jimmy, I think we should set these for some catfish limb lines. and some of the small & low game trails coming back from the stand might get a pelt or two.

Built one this morning. Very easy and effective! All I had around me was some small scrap strap and it still function fine.

Awesome, Swamphanger. That is actually the first one I've seen built outside of my classes. Thanks for sharing

People are amazed at how quick and easy it sets

Very cool Jimmy. I want to try that on the river bank, too cool. And thanks Alan for showing us all this setup.

Thanks for the compliments guys... my pleasure!

The trigger is what is the key. I look forward to learning what configuration you use it in

A couple of things I've done is permanently attach the flip stick to the engine. Not doing that causes the stick to flip away and lose it.

As for the bait stick, I've used it both attached and unattached to the snare line. It can be rigged to be tripped off of a treddle, or bait affixed to it, ala basic figure 4.

Look forward to ya'll taking it to the next level

You got it YY.
