Camping On The Withlacoochee
« on: September 14, 2014, 08:05:27 PM »
Spent a great weekend with a few of the guys camping out of canoes on the Withlacoochee River.

We packed light.

The paddle to the island.

Notice that GPS?  Betcha won't see it in other pictures.........ju st sayin'.

Getting to the island.

Clearing a spot for our camp.

Took a little break from the rain.

Getting up before noon is tough work.

I think my foot is on fire.

Glad Yellowyak was able to make it out for a bit on Saturday.

Friday night's moon (don't worry - the pictures are work safe).

Around camp and on the water.

Neat trip.  Looks like you had some fun and did well in the rain.

Great pictures you took Dave. You captured some great looking cloud reflection over the river pictures.

Danny that sure is one supersize tarp you brought and sounds like it came in handy.

Greg glad to hear you made a visit to the camp. I bet it was hard to leave.

Jimmy glad to hear the reflector oven worked out well.

Spyder I'm with you I think we missed a good trip.

GREAT pics as always Dave. It looks like I'm sporting an earring in that one pic. I haven't had one of those since my college days LOL. I do recall vaguely something about a long sewing needle and a spud behind my ear lobe at a sorority party though...

Love that moon shot, beautiful clarity.

Now I really wish I could have called of work for that weekend!

When I read the caption "We packed light," and then saw the picture, I decided that at least some of you might want to think about building a Pit Pan of your own to use as a canoe cargo trailer!

Looks like everyone had a pretty good time, (unless there's some pics you aren't showing.)
So, where is that launch site? I'd like to mark it on my Google Earth for study and see about figuring a way off work to make that trip if it comes up again in the near future. Either that, or do another on of my "solo adventures."

And the island? Who's control is it under? State, private? Permissions or permits needed?

Seriously, I should have come down with a case of "72 hour Hemorrhagic Fever" or something convenient. Damn! I missed out!

Some great pics Crash, especially the lunar shot.  When I first saw this pic I thought Hush had slipped in one of his water-colours... 8)

Great trip and excellent report.  That looked like a good time.  You really got some good pics.  There's just something about sunrises and sunsets from the water.  Great post!

Great pics. Sorry to hear about the GPS!

Looks like a fun time. You guys have the canoe camping down to a science. Beats drive up campsites hands down.
