Thanks AS, it happens that I am repairing some fence where this will be perfect for securing some temporary horizontal rails for a few weeks and being able to avoid screwing them into the vertical posts (which are metal) will be very handy.

This knot is simple to tie and quick.  Thanks.

It should work well.   Remember the harder you pull on the ends the tighter the knot becomes - very difficult to untie.  The extra frapping turns before you tie the square knot make it extra secure.
