Patches, I'm depending on you son...
« on: August 23, 2015, 04:36:14 PM »
This is high strength ripstop nylon material with an adhesive backing made for the U.S. Military to repair parachutes. As you would expect for something made for that use it is very strong and high quality.

This can be used to repair all kinds of cloth/fabric/leather gear in the field- clothing, pants, tents, hammocks, ponchos etc. It comes with a paper backing, you cut the proper size, stick a patch on both sides, press and go!

Depending on the repair and material this can be a permanent or temporary repair- but when you are in the woods even a temporary repair can be a lifesaver and the weight of a square foot (enough for a lot of repairs) is less than an ounce.

Will be a 42"x12" cut, approximately 3.5 square feet.

You can get any color you want, as long as it's green.

$7.99 PER LINEAR FOOT, If you want multiple feet in one 42" width let me know.

Shipping will be free in the USA, Canada will be $3.25
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.

Sounds like some cool material beast. I will probably order some later in the week, heading out early in the morning for a week long  conference.

Whenever you are ready, give a shout.

I used some on a rip in the leather of my driver seat and it has been holding up pretty well.

Okay, My mind is blown. This roll is 42" long so if I want to buy 3 linear feet it will be 42"x36"?

I'm having dangerous ideas for this stuff...

Yes, 42" wide and as long as you want.

by any chance is it relatively watertight?
I wonder if it would work to repair a tractor seat....

It is somewhat water resistant. Some thinned out silicon or seam seal would probably not be a bad idea if it is going to be constantly exposed to the elements.

I'm going to use it on the seat of my ATV without any additional treatment, if I have to repeat the repair in a year it isn't a big deal to me.

I just picked up a "new to me" nylon hike pack that has a couple small holes on the bottom.  Sounds like a cheap fix.

I've been playing with this material a bit more.

I'm going to upgrade my description from somewhat water resistant to very water resistant.

The adhesive backing seems to make it so.

I'm going to give away a few swatches of this to the first three folks who post here.

I would just ask that you use it and post your honest feedback into this material on this thread and on the Blades and Bushlore Facebook page.

Please do, and if you are patching the seat on the zamboni, I want a picture.  :)

I have one more sample to send if anyone else would like to be a crash test dummy  ;)

I think this may be comparable to  tenacious tape except for two things, you only get 2 3 x 10" strips for the same price (OR SLIGHTLY MORE) than a 12" x 42" piece from me and it isn't pre-cut into Disney Princess shapes (which some may find a big plus).

I changed my game plan a little. This is tougher than I thought. I'm going to use it to truss in a small pvc pipe on my tarp for mid roof tie outs.

I need to find my 1/2' pvc pipe or pick some up. I'll have pictures tonight.

sample arrived today - it has decent initial tack, but is still pretty easy to re-position.  it'll be interesting to see how tight the adhesion is after an hour.

day 2 - instant solid tack on vinyl, and the pieces that were easy to re-position yesterday are solidly attached today - they're on the soft sided cooler I use as a lunch bag, so they'll get a workout as I put them on a couple high wear areas.
tomorrow I will add a piece to the tractor seat and see how it survives sun and rain over the next week or 2.

I got a really nice, but used EMS pack off eBay last month. Only problem was the internal frame runs inside the packs UL material, and along the bottom which had caused some abrasions. Go figure a few days after getting it Mike posts about this chute patch, and was kind enough to hook me up with a sample.  I just got around to using it..  Super useful stuff!

Here was my 3 easy steps to pack repair:

1. Cut
2. Pull
3. Stick

Since both side where worn, I slapped some patch on both corners of the bottom of my pack.  Made for quick reinforcement/wear point protection.

Thanks Mike!

Sign me up for some more of this stuff, screw tenacious tape!

I experimented with this material and posted it here.

http://bladesandbushlore.com/index.php?topic=11850.new#new

I really like the strength of the glue. The nylon is thin for what I'm doing. A larger patch with a stronger reinforcement underneath I think will work great.
The little bit I have left I'm going to patch my pup tent pin holes.

Ok, so I just found this site while searching for nylon repair fabric.  I have several items (backpack, tent, etc.) that I need to repair.  Do you still have any of this material available?  I need at least 1 linear foot.  If not, can you tell me where I can purchase some?  Thanks

8 months after sticking 3 pieces of this to my lunchbag, they're still going strong with no fraying and only 1 of the pieces has started to let go at a corner.
in its defense, that corner is a flex point and also a rub point, so I don't feel this is bad service for peel and stick material that wasn't heat set or sewn around.
