Very unseasonably warm here. 52 degrees out. This time last year we had a 126% snow pack. This year, 36%.

It is cold as the dickens here, today.....single digits & 12-15 mph winds.  The sky is cloudless right now, but there is snow, preceded by sleet, predicted for the next several days.  They are predicting several snows this week with 3-5 additional inches, too.  On top of the 18? we had recently, I am not looking forward to it at all.  >:(

I want to get out and sight-in the new CZ .22 Varmint Rifle I just got, but not to the extent of doing it under those conditions.  On top of it all,the 'minimum maintenance' road I have to traverse to get to my range-site is drifted shut, too. :'(

I have a patch of woods I want to explore for various reasons, and can't get there right now. Talk about cabin fever!

4F this morning but no overnight snow.  That is coming on Wednesday and Thursday.  We usually have a little warmth in mid Feb.  hope so this year.  I plowed the driveway out yesterday with the old Oliver gas tractor.  It started up after sitting out and not plugged in for about two weeks.

The Bobcat started too but the fuel had jelled so it stalled a few times.

16F at 7:30 this morning.  The warmer temperature came with a foot or so of snow on the flats and where it drifted it is over two feet deep.  Shoveled off the deck (a pathway anyway) and then the metal roof shed its snow load and put two feet plus on top of the couple of feet that was there.   :P    The good news is that my two new knees held up pretty well.  One is 4 months old and the other 2 months old.  Grateful for their condition.

This is snowshoe depth snow.

Well hang on cause it is still snowing here today and will go all through the night and into tomorrow.  You will get it Saturday.

I had a lot of trouble seeing where I was going in the light conditions so the driveway will have wait until tomorrow.  Snow on the driveway where it drops off the hill was drifted in pretty deep.  I think I better buy a snow blower for the front of the skid loader so it will never happen here again.

That worked for me for 2 straight years. Bought a snow blower and left it parked for the next two winters. These last two winter were a different story. 40" last winter and 24 so far this year.

-17*F (-27C) this AM, warmed to a -1*F (-18C) but they (NOAA) are predicting back down to -13*F (-25C) by Sunday. The snowfall has only been a dusting and the wind is minimal at just a bit over a breeze. We've only had two snow events worth starting the tractor for this winter, so no complaints from Northeastern ND.

That is cold Pete.  We are forecast to be a minus 11 F tonight and not much of a high tomorrow.  I need to plow the drive down to the county road but ain't gonna do it on the tractor at below 0 temps.  I will, as is my circumstance, just stay home.  :-X

At 7:00 AM this morning it was a minus 19 but the wind wasn't blowing.  It is about minus 12 at the moment and is supposed to get somewhere near zero today.

My driveway has frozen ruts in it that could easily be used to hide bodies.   :-X

Thursday morning finds us with a near white out at times of blowing snow.  Drifts have crossed the driveway all the way down to the country road.   Temps are due to plummet and next Monday is a high of 2F and a low of minus 10F.   ???  This is getting old.

3" fell last night for us. By Monday morning, we're forecast for another 13-14" of white stuff. You're right, Stan...this is getting OLD real fast!  Some years we've wondered if we'd have a White Christmas, but these last two years have been troublesome.  El Nino is a baaad hombre!

I don't think this one's going to affect us that much.  According to my radar app, it looks like Stan is going to get some relief here pretty quickly, but what hits him. usually whacks us within 36 hours.  We may get a little snow, but I don't think the jet stream is powerful enough to bring the brunt of it directly over us this time.  Time will tell if I should take on a part time retirement job as a meteorologist...... .or not.

I know what you mean. I regularly visit 4 different sites and read the local "technical discussion" every morning. I've found the Intellicast "future radar" to actually be the most accurate, although it only covers the next 24hrs.

Currently 76F.  Just finished mowing the yard.  Grass didn't really need cutting.  It was much more mulching oak leaves.  I mulched 3 or 4 times last fall, but the oaks are always the last to fall and I've just been putting it off until today.

Mostly, I look at the enhanced $1.99 MyRadar app on my iphone, along with intellicast.com & a bunch of stuff on the NOAA site.   I liked the MyRadar app, which is free, but I became so intrigued with its accuracy, zoom and precipitation-density pixelization where I could see which portions of my crops & fields were getting the most rainfall, that I went bigtime and bought the $1.99 version.

Just went to my lower corrals and to the neighbors place to check his dog.  There are deep drifts across the driveway all the way out to the road.  The road is a foot deep with soft snow.  My neighbors place is the same drifted over mess as mine.  To boot his dog wouldn't do anything but stand there alternating her front paws in the air.  That means another trip about 3:30 .........  :'(

The 3:30 trip was no better.  That dog just won't pee unless she did it already somewhere in the house.

This statement I understand. Complain about the cold I understand to a point. Someone that doesn't like winter cold weather could move to a warmer spot.... most could if truly dissatisfied.

Of course it doesn't get as low on the F scale here as reported by those further North. Yet, just as OP(I think) said, after a certain amount of time one gets acclimated and air temp becomes less important than things like sunshine, humidity and wind.  I would like to see more snow, but not enough to move. Nevertheless Today it was 70 and it was a treat.

I guess when spring hits we can have a > it's too green, mild, wet thread before we get to : damn its hot.

We have close to 105F annual temperature flux. Two friends of mine in the Seattle area usually have less than a 50F flux, but they have webbed feet due to all the rain.  :-\
But we do have ample sunshine, very little rain, and virtually no wind in our valley.  35F is "T-shirt weather" for us. The only insects we are concerned with are paper wasps in the dry months, and tics in the spring, if you get into the deep woods.
I've lived in hot, humid climates (including over seas), and I just can't deal with working up a sweat chewing my food!

A cheery minus 10F here this morning with 6" of well drifted snow blocking our road down to the country road.  My neighbor came over to pick up some hay and plowed my drive out the whole 1320' so I only had cleanup and a few areas to plow.  It is about 20 F now.

Our temperature swings are like yours.  We get to 105F in the summer and to 40 below at times in the winter so you get to wear a variety of clothing, sometimes on the same day.  This area holds the record for a change in temperature in the shortest time.  Here is a link to the event:

It isn't very humid here compared to the PNW.

We are getting more snow this weekend and the temperatures are headed back below zero.

Some people define the PNW as WA, OR, ID and western MT. I disagree. Although we are on the west side of the Divide, The only comparable weather might be around Cle Elum in WA.  Our humidity, even in the winter, hovers around 20%. Some people have been known to use a leaf blower to clear their sidewalks of snow. Hahaha

Hahaha

Being from Albuquerque i thought everyone used a leaf blower to remove snow. I have always wondered what the big deal is.

24 F here at the moment, headed for below zero tonight.  3 to 8 inches of snow and wind.  I am expecting big drifts and from what I just saw going down to check the stock water tanks this will be pretty bad.  Goes through Monday.

Wonder what the temperature is down in Phoenix this morning?

Snowing again and cold.  Supposed to move out this evening and then get colder for a day or two and then move up in temperature for awhile.

I was going down to check the water in the SUV this morning and the snow wasn't too deep along the top of the driveway, about a foot.  When I got to the downhill part of the driveway my vision was poor and I drove into a three foot drift that is about forty feet long and stuck it the vehicle really good.  Now I cannot get out of the farm until we move it.  I just am going back to bed till tomorrow and then dig it out.   :P

MAN, you are really getting whacked up there this year, Stan! :-\    We haven't been getting too much snow out of these systems, so far.....our problem is the ICE! >:(    We have had three events in a row that start out as freezing rain turning over to snow.  1/8 to 1/4 inch of ice under 2-3 inches of light, fluffy snow doesn't LOOK bad, but driving on it turns into a nightmare.   It's too cold for the crap they put down on the roads to melt it, so it just keeps building up.  >:(

-11F here this morning. Stan, you were supposed to keep this fridged crap on your side of the mountains!  I'd follow your lead and go back to bed for the day, but I have a foot of snow to get off the mobile before it all turns to 4" of ICE!
 :tent:

I was coming home from work in the dark outside Union, NE. Blizzard conditions and drove my station wagon into a similar drift I couldn't even see. It took 2 days and a front loader to get me out!
Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Try spending 30 seconds in my head. That will freak you right out!!
