British Surplus backpack PCLE Short in DPM
« on: April 23, 2020, 07:24:53 PM »
Picked this pack up at PCLE in DPM pattern this is the short version.  Got it at my favourite surplus store Varusteleka  Its 90 litres plus 20 more in the side compartments.

A little surplus smell to get rid of but I can't wait to get it out for an over nightery.    Then its going to be truck pack.  Going to try and get it more aired out.  My video is a decent overview of the pack.

Looks like a pretty good rucksack type pack.  Years ago I bought a Gerry compartmented type of Rucksack with a aluminium "frame" that worked very well for the loads we carried when we were young.  In looking at your surplus pack it appears much more versatile than what we had and with the extension and exterior pockets would sure hold a lot more gear.  Thanks for posting this.

Yeah some of these packs are pretty neat. Honestly I was going for an old Alice pack and frame but this looked more comfortable.

Nice! I saw a signature on hammock forums, " Yeah my pack weighs 75lbs, but it's all ultralight gear."

My stuff is light but synthetic not down so it's bulky. So do the side pockets unzip off the main pack so you could day trip with one or both?
Great find.

Yeah the side pockets do come off completely.  Apparently you can use them as dag bags with the right clips.   I haven't gotten that far yet.

Its still airing out :)

I washed a tent with dawn dish soap and Borax. It got rid of any mildew smell.

I think I got it good with mild soap, sunshine and a good breeze.   Thanks its good to have a back up plan.
