My most recent favorite, my youngest daughter slaying some pike.

Looks like shes posing as some kind of mythical beast vanquisher, there's even sunlight glinting off her reel! Gung-Fish-Fu for the win!

A few shots from a recent trip to Lake Guntersville, AL. The sunrises and sunsets were way better than the fishing.

He appears to be somewhat related to a couple of my Toady friends.  Simon and Garfunkel Bugeater.  Both of them croak a lot too.

Bullfrogs have a large amount of creedence when they live in clearwater.  They croak all night long like they are at a revival.

Nice photo Nuke.

Thanks, Stan.  It's a Panasonic DC-FZ80.  It's a 'bridge' camera, which I didn't even understand until I went shopping for a DSLR.  The reviews are good, the specs are over the top, and it's the only camera in its class that can take time-lapse video, something I really wanted.  I downloaded the official Owner's Manual from Panasonic...all 331 pages! Ack!!!!

I started doing stop-frame animation with an old 8mm movie camera when I was 12.  I might have some fun with this camera!

I have toyed with getting a bridge camera and there are several that I liked.  It is tough to let an older DSLR go for cheap but there are some lenses that are still worth a bit.  Post a lot of photos.

My first plan was a DSLR, probably Olympus, that would take my old Takumar lenses, plus my adapted 200mm Vivtar.  The only Olympus near my budget was over 6 bills, and the features were limited, IMO.  I know what you mean about letting go when you have $3500-$4000 invested in hardware already.

But this ol' dog is always ready to learn new tricks, and being a technophile, I couldn't resist the built-in 15 sec time exposure, not to mention the integrated zoom.
The FZ80 is 16 Mp, 15 sec-1/2,000 shutter speed, ISO 80-3200 with 'extended ISO' a button away.  Little things like a pop-up flash PLUS a hot-shoe, both LCD and Optical view finder, etc, etc.  The deal-maker is the Zoom.  Nothing but raves in the industry for it's clarity, even in the digital range.  Optical zoom is 60x (20mm-1200mm) and depending upon which of jillion recording modes you choose, the digital range expands that to 120x, with a 35mm camera equivalent to 6,700 mm!!! Say, WHAT?!   Yeah, although you better have it screwed to a cement block to steady it.  The "noise" can usually be edited out easily with post processing.
Oh, yeah...and it has what they call "post focusing", so if you don't quite get it right when you take a picture/video, the camera will analyze 47 elements in the picture and correct the focus for you. Doh....
I may not live long enough to learn this weapon inside and out; like I say the Manual is 331 pages. There are 110 individual settings with their respective icons on the screen, and since its a "touch screen", I find myself pressing "reset to factory settings" quite a bit....hahahaha

Nice pics OP.  The first one is really beautiful and you could process that a bit and it would look like one
of Bierstadt's oil paintings back in the 1800's.

Wasn't exactly sure where to put this since it's a trail cam photo, but figured here was as good as any.

I've watched barred owls in my backyard for several years now.  It took me a while to figure out what they were catching/eating because I knew I didn't have that many field rats or deer mice that they could constantly be swooping down on and eating.  Best I can figure is when it's a good year for lightning bugs it's also a good year for barred owls.  I've seen up to 4 separate owls at time hunting them in the backyard.  I have several pics of them on the bird bath---often 2 at a time drinking and/or taking a bird bath.  This is probably the best pic of the ones I have.  Unfortunately he wasn't looking at the camera.

Good photo Nuke.  There are barred owls on the eastern side of South Dakota but not out in the west along the Wyoming border where we live.  I have never seen one anywhere I have lived in fact.  My book says they make a call that sounds like "who cooks for you- who cooks for you all''.  They also "bark"  Is that so?

We have great horned owls here from time to time and there is one the last couple of months.  Showed up in April.  Usually there is one every year but they stay in the wooded area of our farm and have never come near the bird bath.  They will set on top of the yard light/power pole at times and hoot half the night but usually just stay in a tree.

Their normal call does sound like "Who-who-who cooks for you?  Who-who-who cooks for you all?"  I hear them often, sometimes even in the middle of the day.  What is really entertaining (for me, anyway) is when they get to caterwauling.  It does sound something like barking during parts of it.

We supposedly have Great Horned owls here, also, but I've never seen nor even heard one that I'm aware of.

This is one of the best recordings of barred owls I've heard.  It has both their normal calls and caterwauling.  I think you'll be able to easily distinguish the difference.

I was pretty excited to see my first barred owl around here and that was probably around 10 years, or so, ago, but now it seems like it's more rare to see great horned owls which used to be in profusion.  The screech owls are always around, of course.....cute little guys, but the REALLY rare owls around here are the barn owls.  I have only seen ONE in my entire life.....they're beautiful!
