Big Horn Fire Rod
« on: November 08, 2012, 03:06:08 PM »
This is a commissioned piece.

It is made from a piece of poplar about 7/8" round.  The ferro rod is 3/8" by 4".

The piece is right at 5 3/4" overall with about 3 5/8" strike area.

Looks great! The copper tube is a nice touch that goes well with the color of the wood.

Well I only ask because I have some nice pieces or cherry and dogwood laying around that I think would be cool handles. I also have some epoxy laying around because I build custom fishing rods. So I figured maybe i would try my hand at making.one

I buy my steel from firesteel.com

I have had good luck with them so far and their rods sure seem to be sparky.

Not that his aren't impressive cause they are, i am one of those guys who likes to try building his own unless it is way out of my league. 2 years ago started making custom fishing rods, I have never looked back
