S.A.K. Ferro rod scale.
« on: April 14, 2020, 11:05:19 AM »
I wanted to post this here. I think this is as perfect as this is going to get. Let me know if you would want one of these or if it's kind of stupid. I designed this for me because I'm never without my SAK.
I changed the profile of the handle and added some better grips. I also added little insets for rare earth magnets to ensure the rod doesn't fall out once it has been used a lot and loses it's friction fit.
This only fits the 91mm Victorinox and holds a 1/8" x 2" ferro rod.

I somehow missed this earlier.  After looking at it I don't quite understand what I am looking at. My problem is probably because I cannot tell where the ferro rod is in the drawing and have no size reference.

Okay, that makes sense. The ferro rod epoxies into the small nub and slides into the scale. here's an earlier design I actually printed. I eliminated the two very sharp corners on the nub/handle in the new design.

I see how it works now.  I am interested in one.  Let me know either here or with a message how much and what colors are available.  Black is good and orange would be good too.  If a ferro rod is included that is fine, if not let me know what size rod it takes.  Thanks

I want to do an update here. I do believe I have this perfected now. The elastic band glued into the handle slides into the notch at the other end. Making it much more secure and it carries very nicely in the pocket. I have rounded the "hump" more and it now has a larger diameter hole so the 1/8th" rod slides without restriction.

On top of this 91mm S.AK. version I designed also one for the classic. I can share the .STL files if you have a printer or I can pint one for ya. I usually charge $5 covers shipping and the filament.

I have royal blue, dark blue, black, glow in the dark, Gray, and red.

The firesteel.com Tiny is used in these. or any 1/8th x 2". The 91mm can be drilled a bit larger if you find a rod that's bigger than 1/8th but still under 1/4"
This is a Red PETG scale and a Glow in the dark PLA handle.

,

I still have to fix the handle on this one. The first one I printed shown here with the glow handle didn't have enough of a notch to secure the elastic cord. I made a deeper notch but then the rod stuck out too far on the end. It helps keep the cord in place but might be uncomfortable in the pocket. The handle design is different too.

Thank you. I really like always having one on me. The firefly is just too tiny and I got arthritis.
