camping in the grove
« on: April 17, 2019, 06:22:35 AM »
it;s getting close to time for setting up the tent/camp in the back yard.
it' going to be a challange at best. mainly because we did it together
now it;s alone and the memories i still hold and always will
make it difficult at best though i've managed to make 2;knives
mabey 3 in the last year.i still find it hard to go into the shop.
i'm hoping things will change for the better some how.
camping it seems to me is kinda like drinking wine or
eatin a good meal they are to be shared with others.
at least that's how it feels.
i am excited though to start the new year
it;s just different now that's all/
one thing that sucks though is i had a brand new camp/king propane stove/oved stored in the
wood shop it went up too. and 200'00  for a newone forget it.
will try to post some picks if able

well i just bought a tent yesterday it's a 16person cabin tent.
same as last year. still waiting for things to dry up a bit.
though i'm really ichingto build a plywood cabin of same size
and wrap it in steel siding. insuladed and run water& electric out to it as well.
my plates pretty full these days i'll have to see.

Just a suggestion, and only my opinion so feel free to disregard it, a steel wrapped cabin wouldn't feel quite woodsy or bush crafty enough for me, if it were mine I think I'd frame it with studs and side it with log siding or saw mill slabs cut from the outer trunks of trees being sawed into dimensional lumber, you can usually get the slabs free or next to it from most saw mills, you can leave the bark on or strip it off, I'd probably strip it and spray the siding with Thompson's water seal or something like it for weather and bug protection.
I think you could build it pretty inexpensively out of rough cut studs and slabs from a saw mill, and it would have a much nicer rustic look and feel.

What ever path you take, good luck with your camp project.

How big is a 16 person tent?  I mean the footprint like 12x18 or what?

it's about 10x20 but the funny thing is if youlook at the picture of how they show you the 16 people
sleeping. it trully resembles a old african slave ship.
my take is this it is ment for 4 people comfortably.
