A small ceramic rod sharpener.
« on: January 18, 2021, 02:57:02 PM »
I have a habit of buying stuff related to knife sharpening when I see it.  Gun Shows, flea markets, Ebay, and yard sales.  Here is one I got a few months ago.  While I have two other ceramic sharpeners this one is really small and has a great storage function.  It is a good sharpener too with two different angles.

Made by Lansky it is called a Turn Box Sharpener.  Works like all of them, just pick your angle and hold the knife plumb while you draw it down the rod.

looks like a good option. I've been dabbling with diamond "paddles" of different grits. However when the day is done I gravitate back to a stone.
I picked up a "puck" from barynox and it's been great.

I have a lot of stones and diamond guided hones and three other ceramic sticks. For the money the little Lansky is hard to beat.  With the two different grits it repairs blades well and touch ups are easy.  I am one of those people who has trouble holding a consistent angle so the sticks help me avoid that.

My son has a Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker which I like to use, but that's a nice looking portable sharpener, for a great price. Just put one on order. Thanks. After I receive it, I'll probably look at gluing on a small strip of leather on the side for stropping as well.

Gluing that leather strip on the side is a good idea.  I carry a small one glued on a piece of oak but it would be handier on the rod.

I have a Sharpmaker too.  I like it well enough and it came in a really good nylon case.  It was used and in good shape with both sets of ceramic rods and the brass safety guards.

The reason I like the Lansky a bit better is it has two sets of angle drilled holes for the rods one pair is 20 and the other 25 degrees and is, of course, smaller for easy packing.

I have several ceramic rods already.  One came with my ApexPro sharpener.    Still, the price and utility are attractive, so I ordered one yesterday.   It showed up this morning.  Already put it to use, and yeah, it works.

I liked that little turn box from Lansky so much, that I bought another and had it sent to my Miami place, and got one for my daughter in law as well.  She loves it.
