it's been my experience in some 20+ years on forums, that even the most contentious thread dies  a natural death.

Given the sequence of replies to an objectively innocuous post and the support of vehemently political response by a forum moderator it seems my understanding of the commonly accepted meaning of the term and role of the official is pretty far off the mark  Perhaps a list of topics acceptable to the few regular participants would be helpful for future reference. It would likely not be a long one.

While i agree discussions generally run their course it is only when participants play fair. Otherwise things begin to look like the widely touted cancel culture we hear so much about these days. Of course, I could be wrong about that too. It happens.

Surely you can't be surprised that your usual leftist academic bent doesn't find much favor with "the folks" on this and I'll wager many other forums who's general membership is made up primarily of Red/White/and blue Americans (generally over the age of 50) who were educated in schools that still believed that America was good,  that socialism was bad, and that freedom meant that people were individuals that made their own futures, sought out their own opportunities,  and learned from their own mistakes, When citizens had rights and government was limited, a time when the family was the hub that children revolved around, and morals, values, and right & wrong were learned at home, not in a class room from a socialist professor.
From an early age a standing rule for staying out of trouble or conflict was "never discuss politics or religion", and it is actually pretty sound advice normally,  but we aren't in normal times (so most of us believe or we wouldn't be having this discussion), every day in this land of First Amendment Free political speech Protections we find ourselves shut out of just about anywhere where anyone can voice a dissenting opinion against the merits of socialism whether it's in social media or in the editorial section of your local news paper (if you still have one).
Back in the days of the founding of this country people were arrested for speaking out against the ruling power, some were imprisoned others less fortunate were executed,  so "the folks" had to find other places in which to gather and discuss the events of the day, the most famous of those places was the Green Dragon Inn in Boston (not far from my home),  well, for some of us this forum and others like it are our Green Dragon Inn, a place where we can normally gather to talk about common interests like knifes, camping, outdoor gear, and good food among other things, and when we feel political pressures being put on freedoms or well being the conversation could very well turn in that direction, it's only human nature,  but here in this country opinions are free, anyone can hold one, however, if you are so moved to walk into a church social carrying a sign that states "Hail Satan", I kind of doubt you'd be well received,  if you get my drift.

It's not gone, just moved to the Private section since political discussion was involved.

Thank you for the response Moe. There are areas agreement as always

While there's no need to defend education (thank hou GI Bill) or career choices i will suggest that presuming to instruct a decorated combat vet (volunteeer) on your particular personal version of Red, White and Blue as the sine qua non of patriotism does not bolster your points.

Personally i dont care. I recognize it for what it is. Out of respect for the far too many who never had the chance to grow old or we're forced to exist in ways they never chose i suggest they deserve better. I can only speak for myself, of  ourse. Many, too many, cannot speak at all. Ill exercise my First Amendment rights on their behalf.

Wishing you and yours well.

I have three people on ignore in this forum and I find that it works well.  I don't read their posts and am better off for it.

To access the private section you need to send PW a request and ask for it.  It is a sub-forum where political discussion is allowed and some of the guidelines for forum decorum are relaxed.  If you do ask to gain access make sure that you read the sticky that PW has in there.

You had access under your Madmax screen name.  Since you created a new one, you will need to go through the process that I outlined above.

Thanks.  I might be better off just staying out of that.
