craftsmanship skills

Old skills demonstrated in early 60's. Knife skills start around 7 minute mark. Entire series is entertaining. I have to keep pausing just to take in the details in the background.

    Spruce plaited pannier.

  Extracting clay for bricks?  Lunch at 29 minutes!

  Anybody familiar with the heating or steaming before breaking the flax stems? I haven't seen that step before. 

  No wonder linen was prized above wool. The labor involved.

   Tool upgrade for making, sharpening hand scythes.

Yup, it's for those evenings when the livestock has been checked, the wife's on the phone to an old friend and the wind is whistling by at 30 knots. A hot beverage of choice at hand and it will be time to learn how to mine clay to use for making my own bricks. Ha! That's not going to happen for me in this lifetime. But it's fun to watch.

Watching these videos reminds me of that old saying "Work fascinates me, I could sit and watch it for hours."

Your welcome Wolfy. I have no idea what the Kardashians are up to or who is kissing who on "The Bachelor", but these are addicting to me. And one always leads to another. My evenings will probably be occupied until spring now and if I turn up the volume, I might even learn a little German.

I traveled a little in Germany.....just enough to know that my vocabulary was VERY limited. :P    I ended up eating a lot of bread and a surprising number of sausage variants. :shrug:
