Pay It Forward Box - Stage 3
« on: May 24, 2016, 05:41:57 PM »
The last PIF boxes go arounds went great! I thint it would be outstanding if the leftovers from the PIF box 1 & the PIF box 2 got combined & everything restarted for PIF box 3.

Just take the leftovers from the PIF 1 & 2 , put them together as a "re start" for a PIF 3!

It seems as though it would be a good way fr the newer members to get involved, & let some of the rest of us keep the tradition alive & going!

Helping others out, & sharing some of the things that we have as spares & such, for those who do not have the access to, or funds to get a step "forward"..

I enjoyed the last two, & I think we should combine & start a new one.

What ya think?

:)

MnS, maybe it would be helpful to review the rules for the newer members?

Yeah I needed this kick in the butt. After I combined everything there wasn't enough to make a few "kits". There are a bunch of knives. Some fire starting stuff and some first aid stuff. I was at a loss.

I will make a new box up. I will do a give away for what's left. There is too much for one box anyway.

Who is going to run things this time? Start the list and I'll get the box ready.

I've not participated in one so I have wondered how it works out, based on the way I've seen many giveaways go here.

It seems like most folks here are pretty well geared up, and they dont go in just to get something free. Since it would only take away the chances for the person who needs or wants the goodies most.

It's not hard to imagine someone taking out 1 or 2 and trying to add in 3 or 4, or maybe not even being able to add to it because it's already stuffed full.

So what i wondered is, how do you keep the box from growing larger and larger?

the box typically grows. sometimes a user will do a purge and separate the box, giving away the extras pulled out. like most things here at B&B we kinda wing it, which is a good thing.

Which reminds me, since I'm supposed to run this shin dig, here's the rules:

1. Put in as much as you take out (equal or greater dollar value). Be fair
2. ship back out within one week of receipt.
3. please post pics of what you take out and put in. it helps keep folks accountable, and it adds to the fun of the thread.
4. copy and paste the list to add your name to the list.
5. limit the size to one large flat rate box.

do you guys want to do a miminum post count this time?

Nothing like planting a seed, to see it germinate & grow.
 ;)

Great to see some action so soon! to xj35s & Bighat for stepping up to the plate!
 :)

Looking to see if UTC is "back in the game" too... (I hope so, I understand he is ailing a bit.) :(

 Get better, man! :)

I will be watching & might step in in a few days. I usually have a bit of stuff to share.

I'm in JB. you better be too. I purged the box one time on the last go round. It was PACKED. I think a theme would be a cool idea. I'm getting around pretty good now and am happy I finally get out and about. Thanks Bh for stepping up for this one. XJ did a bang up job. I think I got it twice and was more than happy when I saw it waiting at the door.

OK. Looks like things are moving fast, so please put me in the list. I was hoping to see some more of the newer folks getting in here also, but I reckon they will when they are ready.
 :)

Besides, if UTC is up to doing it again, and wants me to join in, then I am too! All in the interest of good cheer all around, and glad to see things are doin better!

I've been trying to be a more careful reader lately. Item 4 on his "rules" post.

Is there a limit to the number of participants. I didn't see that

I did not remember that rule from the other ones, although it may have been there. All I remembered from before was a type of "I'm in" to be posted & the "handler" added,( or moved around/skipped names on the list, if there was some issue with someone not being able to take the box. ( Wolfy, on the last one comes to mind due to surgery/injury, if I am not mistaken).

Seems like Mr 1066vik thought that way also...

Regardless, I am on the list now & when are you?
 ;)

ETA : as far as timeline/limit for participants?? Did not know if there was one..  ??  Bighat?

I had thought about limiting participants, or timeline... but i don't really see why. these things normally finish on their own, after they've been passed around a bit. let's just see where it goes and how it grows.

for the list, if you want to be added to the list, copy and paste it and add yours as the last name on the list. i'll check in periodically and make sure the list stays clean.

I do realize there was a lot more stuff at the end of the last one. I think I put the "best of" in the box I sent to big hat.

A few things got left on the table when I was trying to fit it all in.
Some chert, a stainless steel strainer, and some small items.

If there was anything in the other PIF'S Last boxes that you want let me know. I've lost track of some of it probably but it's here somewhere...

As I posted previously the box arrived safely and crammed to the gills.

What I took out.....a value pack of body warmers and a small pack of hand warmers, an altoids tin sized pouch with a tin filled with char cloth, a screw on butane stove, some drink mixes, a metal whistle, a small first aid box and a red zipper pouch with some first aid supplies, Blades & Bushlore can cozy, and a spring assisted folder.

What I added.....a new Hybeam Pop lantern/flashight, spoon, neck pouch, a portable battery pack in black pouch for charging cell phones, tablets, etc., USGI surplus dry bag, surplus Swiss belt flashlight, Jack Daniels pocket flask, USGI molle canteen pouch, and a surplus French mess kit.

I should get it in the mail Monday or Tuesday.

Just a quick note guys. The post office tried to deliver the package on Friday but I was not home. The post office in town is not open on Saturday and due to the holiday won't be open on Monday. First thing Tuesday morning I'll head to the post office and grab it!

Got the box and it is crammed! I have the pictures of how it arrived what I removed and what I put in. The only problem is they are on my phone and tapatalk is the only way I have been able to post pictures. I don't suppose I could text the pictures to someone to post for me? Up the creek I need your address my friend. I can get the package out tomorrow morning.

I love being out in the woods!   I like this quote from Mors Kochanski - "The more you know, the less you carry". I believe in the same creed, & think  "Knowledge & honed skills" are the best things to carry with ya when you're out in the wilds. They're the ultimate "ultralight" gear! ;)
