Title: Wild Edible & Herbal Remedies Resources
Post by: Barbarossa Bushman on February 13, 2012, 02:28:35 PM
One of the Bushcraft/Outdoor skill areas that I have become more serious about since last year is Wild Edible & Herbal Remedies. I was always interested in the topic and wanted to learn more. I collect books and read as much as I can on everything so here are the best books I have found on these topics so I thought I'd share what I like. What are your favorite books or media on these topics? Anyone else read these?

For Wild Edibles these three books are the best I have read.
#1) Edible Wild Plants: Wild Foods From Dirt To Plate (The Wild Food Adventure Series, Book 1) by John Kallas
This is his first book out and I can't wait for more. (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-dWFnxv7Vo28/TzmNB01h8GI/AAAAAAAAAVA/CV-LUMHAoD8/s288/Edible%2520Wild%2520Plants%2520Book.jpg)
2) The Forager's Harvest: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants by Samuel Thayer(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-O22RHqaDW4k/TzmNINfsO8I/AAAAAAAAAVI/VLfRVyS3c4c/s288/The%2520Forager%2527s%2520Harvest%2520Book.jpg)
*He has a DVD that supplements this book but I have not bought it yet but will soon. Has anyone seen it? (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X1kON_6d2Cg/TzmNLf2NQeI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/3aYiGKqhghY/s288/The%2520Forager%2527s%2520Harvest%2520DVD.jpg)
#3) Nature's Garden: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants by Samuel Thayer (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-W8HQakuSXuU/TzmM_mrvv1I/AAAAAAAAAU4/7-BwiqCa7W4/s288/Nature%2527s%2520Garden%2520Book.jpg)

For Herbal Medicine this is the best all around book I have found. This author has several other books but I do not have them yet as I think this one will cover as much as I need.

The Book of Herbal Wisdom: Using Plants as Medicines
Matthew Wood (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-KT7_yB_n50g/TzmQjWNqB_I/AAAAAAAAAVc/sap688ER4-E/s288/510OjZflexL._BO2%252C204%252C203%252C200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click%252CTopRight%252C35%252C-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg)

I'm going to put serious effort into wild edible, tree, and track identification this summer. I'm so terrible with trees, it's embarrassing.

Hey pickledpinecone I am with you on the trees. I could use some practice. Here is the best book out there now in my opinion for tree ID.

Some of those books have been on want list but for now I downloaded the wild edibles app and have been happy with that so far. I do need to get out and do some pratice with it.

Here is a preview of the app.
